CV Miteldeutschland vs. TSV Herrsching

It’s been an emotional few weeks for Michael Amoroso (Toronto, On) and Chemie Volley MItteldeutschland. The Pirates libero, Dennis Hefter, was involved in a train accident on the night of February 22nd and passed away. Hefter was also Amoroso’s roommate. 

After taking time to mourn their teammate, Mitteldeutschland still had to face TSV Herrsching in the pre-playoffs. Maybe it was thanks to a guardian angel, but Amoroso powered the team to two emotional wins, scoring 19 points in the first match and following it up with 13 in the second, on route to being named MVP in both. The Pirates took the series 2-0 (3-1; 3-1) and move one to face Friedrichschafen in the quarterfinals. 

Rote Raben Vilsbiburg vs. VT Aurubis Hamburg 

A clash of Canadians went in the Bundesliga ore-playoffs! Kyla Richey (Roberts’s Creek, BC) playing for Rote Raben Vilsbiburg went toe-to-toe with VT Aurubis Hamburg featuring Jenn Lundquist (Surrey, BC), Lucy Charuk (Tsawwassen, BC) and Dana Cranston (Fort St. John, BC).

Vilsbiburg came out on top; taking the first match 3-1 on February 25th then following it up with a 3-0 win on March 3rd to qualify for the quarterfinals. Richey showed up big for her team, scoring 14 and 13 points respectively. Charuk scored nine in the first match and led her team with 15 points in the second, while Cranston scored nine and eight respectively. Lungdquist came off the bench in the second match. 

LNV

Lyon (0) - Beauvais (3)

ASUL Lyon was hoping for a better result on the road this weekend but suffered a 3-0 loss to Beauvais. Toon van Lankvelt (Rivers, Ma) scored 10 times in the match while Adam Simac (Ottawa, On) added another four kills and a block in a losing effort. 

Nantes Rezé (3) - Narbonne (1)

They’re not dead yet! Nantes Rezé fought-off relegation with a big win against Narbonne this weekend, and now sit only a point behind their opponents. Max Burt (Gander, NL) came made an appearance in every set but did not record any points. 

Tours (3) - Chaumont (1)

With Lyon’s loss on Thursday, Tours a chance to make up some ground this weekend and did just that. The defending champs defeated Chaumont 3-1 while Nicholas Hoag (Sherbrooke, Qc) added four kills in a winning cause. Tours sits in fourth with 44 points - just a point behind Lyon in 3rd.

Ajaccio is another team in the heart of the LNV playoff race where they sit in a three-way tie for fifth. They needed a big win this weekend and got it with help from Brett Dailey (Ottawa, On) who recorded nine points including seven blocks. His .91 blocks/set in second best in the LNV.

Béziers (2) - Paris St. Cloud (3) 

Rebecca Pavan (Kitchener, On) picked up 14 points (12 kills, 1 ace, 1 block) in Bézier’s 3-2 loss to Paris St. Cloud on Saturday. The Angels now sit in fifth in the LNV with 37 points.

Turkey

Arkas Izmir (3) - Maliye Piyango (0)

The regular season is winding down in Turkey, and Arkas Izmir is sitting pretty in second-place with a 16-4 record. They picked up another win this weekend over Maliye Piyango. Gavin Schmitt (Saskatoon, Sk) led the match with 18 points with Gord Perrin (Creston, BC) added another seven.

Plus Liga

Playoffs: Bydgoszcz (1) - Gdansk (3)  Playoffs 5-8: Bydgoszcz (3) - Bedzin (1)

No rest for the wicked in Poland! After losing 3-1 to Gdansk to be knocked out of the Plus Liga Playoffs on Saturday, Transfer Bydgoszcz bounced back nicely with a 3-1 win over Bedzin in the first match of their 5-8 Playoff series. Yes, in Poland they play-out every position! Justin Duff (Winnipeg, Ma) contributed with a kill and a block in two sets of play. They next match in the series goes down Saturday. 

NLA

#Dragons Lugano vs. Chenois Geneva - 3-1 and 3-0

A pair of wins for T.J. Sanders (London, On) and the #Dragons Lugano over Chenois Geneva last week have improved their playoff record to 5-1, good for top of the table! The #Dragons take on TV Schonenwerd on Wednesday. 

Sagres NUC vs. Hotel Cristal VFM - 3-0 and 3-0

A pair of 3-0 wins in rounds 5 and 6 for Sagres NUC leave Megan Cyr (St. Andrew, Mb) and Marissa Field (Kelowna, BC) undefeated so far in the LNA playoffs! Round 7 goes down on Wednesday against Aesch Pfeffingen. 

Superliga

Sada Cruzeiro (3) - Montes Claros (0)

As top team in Brazil after the regular season, Sada Cruzeiro picked up where they left off in their first playoff match with a 3-0 win over Montes Claros. Next match is scheduled for Saturday. 

Ethias League

Noliko Maaseik (3) - Volley Haasrode Leuven (1)

Playoffs in Belgium are a little different than we're used to. The top six teams move on to the playoffs, and fight amongst one and other for a chance to be top two and play in the finals. Steve Gotch (Okotoks, Ab) and Maaseik are on the right path after their opening 3-1 win over Leuven! They take on Knack Roselare on Saturday. 

Divizia-A

Stiita Bacau (3) - Lugoj (1)

Tesca Andrew-Wasylik (Unionville, On) and Stiinta Bacau continue to lead Romania's Divizia-A after a 3-1 win over Lugoj this weekend. 

Eredivise

Lycurgus (3) - Zaanstad (0)

Lycurgus continues their winning ways with a 3-0 win over Zaanstad on Saturday. The content to sit in second position with a 20-1 record. Chris Voth (Winnipeg, Ma) was a healthy scratch on Saturday to allow for rest.
