Three Stars of the Week: November 30th - December 6th

Three Stars of the Week: November 30th - December 6th

1st Star: Colton de Man - Tierp Volley

Colton De Man (Calgary, AB) has been enjoying a great first season playing for Tierp Volley in Sweden this season, but he took things to another level this weekend. The former MRU Cougar was a machine last week, first dropping 43 points in a 3-2 heartbreaker to Sollentuna on Thursday, then following that up with another 29 points while getting the 'W' over Linköpings on Saturday. Any way you look at it, 72 points in a couple matches is down right filthy.

2nd Stars: Toon van Lankvelt and Jason DeRocco - Jastrzebski Wegiel

We decide which of these two teammates was better over the weekend, so in the words of the Old El Paso girl - "why not both?" Jason DeRocco (Winnipeg, MB) returns from injury to help Toon van Lankvelt (Rivers, MB) and Jastrzebski Wegiel to two big wins over the weekend. The pair scored 14 points a piece in a 3-0 win over AZS Czestochowa on Monday with DeRocco picking up the game MVP. They weren't done there, as Van Lankvelt led the way with 18 and DeRocco backed him up scoring 16 times as they swept Transfer Bydgoszcz on Saturday.

3rd Star: Marissa Field - Panathinaikos AO

Making her mark on one of the most heated rivalries in sport, Marissa Field (Kelowna, BC) got a taste of the Athens Derby over the weekend, with both Field's Panathinaikos and their opponents Olympiakos Piraeus heading into the match a perfect 7-0. While the Canadian middle blocker was big scoring 12 points with three aces and two blocks, the clovers suffered their first loss of the season, falling 3-1.

Three Stars of the Week: November 23rd-29th

Three Stars of the Week: November 23rd-29th

1st Star: Nick Del Bianco - SVG Lüneburg

SVG Lüneburg surprised everyone last year by making it all the way to the Finals in the DVV Cup, and they're on their way back now thanks to Nick Del Bianco (Surrey, BC). The 2015 CIS Player of the Year was a powerhouse in last week's quarterfinal against Mitteldeutschland, scoring 25 points in the 3-1 win including five aces.

While Lüneburg wasn't as successful in league play on the weekend, falling 3-1 to VfB Friedrichshafen, Del Bianco continued to light up the stat sheet, adding 13 points.

2nd Star: Becky Pavan  - MKS Dabrowa Gornicza

Coming up big this week for Dabrowa Gornicza was Becky Pavan (Kitchener, ON), who led her team to a 3-1 win over Bydgoszcz with 16 points. Having moved to right side, Pavan's strong blocking caused some serious problems, picking up a match high three blocks as well.

3rd Star: Jamie Thibeault - Unendo Yamamay Buston Arsizio

Busto Arsizio did something they've yet to do this year in Italy's Serie A: win a game on the road. They picked up a 3-1 win in Florence this weekend to improve to .500 and a 4-4 record. Jaimie Thibeault (Sylvan Lake, AB) was solid for Busto, scoring 12 points in the match including three blocks

Three Stars of the Week - November 16th-22nd

Three Stars of the Week - November 16th-22nd

Every week we'll be highlighting the top three performances from Canadians playing professionally around the world! Here's your Three Stars for the week of November 16th-22nd.

1st Star - Tabi Love - SC Schweriner

In her first start of the season, Tabi Love (Dauphin, MB) went 11-for-20 and had 13 points in Schweriner's 3-0 win over Thuringia on Saturday. Adding Tabi on the outside is a huge addition to a team that is already leading the Bundesliga. Can someone say early season favourites?

2nd Star - Toon van Lankvelt - Jastrzebski Wegiel

Looks like Toon van Lankvelt (Rivers, MB) is settling in nicely in Poland! Jastrzebski Wegiel was on the other side of a five-setter this weekend, falling to Gdansk in the extra frame, but the veteran outside hitter dropped 17 points in the process.

3rd Star - Bryan Fraser - United Volleys

Usually scoring 10 points in a losing effort isn't worth mentioning. But when you come off the bench to lead your team in scoring in only a set and a half of work? That deserves a mention. Bryan Fraser (Saskatoon, SK) is slowly adjusting to life in the Bundesliga, but it didn't take him long to adjust this weekend as he was the lone light for the United Volleys this weekend.

Three Stars of the Week - November 9th-15th

Three Stars of the Week - November 9th-15th

1st Start - Caroline Jarmoc - Allianz MTV Stuttgart

Caroline Jarmoc (Calgary, AB) has arrived in the Bundesliga. After a tough Champions League outing on Thursday, Stuttgart had a big weekend ahead with a double-header on the road. They came out unscathed with victories of 3-0 over VCO Berlin and 3-2 against SC Potsdam, in large part due to the work of Jarmoc. In her first starts of the season, the former Kansas Jayhawk dropped 14 points in both matches, picking up nine blocks over eight sets in the process.

The wins bump Stuttgart to third - three points behind the leader with 14.

2nd Star - Gord Perrin - Piacenza

Gord Perrin (Cresson, BC) continues to thrive in one of the best leagues in the world. Leading Piacenza of Italy in scoring through four matches, it was no different on Sunday when the Canadian outside shone with a 15 point performance. His team wasn't as lucky - dropping the 3-1 decision to Verona.

3rd Star - Toon van Lankvelt - Jastrzebski Wegiel

Poland's Plus Liga is never without drama, and it was in full effect on the weekend as 2nd Star - Jastrzebski Wegiel handed the star-studded Resovia Rezeszow a 3-2 defeat. Toon van Lankvelt (Rivers, MB) stood tall for the black and orange with 11 points including the game-winning block to improve his team to 3-1.
