Volleyball viewership spans television, streaming, social media and live attendance. The strongest recent figures come from the Volleyball Nations League (VNL), where the 2025 competition attracted 1.72 billion cumulative viewers across 80 territories. Digital viewing also expanded: VBTV recorded 22.7 million views and 819 million minutes watched during VNL 2025. These figures sit alongside major national audiences, rising live-stream consumption and substantial Olympic exposure.

VNL 2025 global viewership
The VNL 2025 audience was measured across 80 territories and reached 1.72 billion cumulative viewers. That is a cumulative figure, so it describes the total viewing audience reported across the competition rather than a single simultaneous audience. The same competition generated 22.7 million VBTV views and 819 million minutes of content watched on the platform.
The tournament also produced 2,987 social media posts, according to the FIVB VNL Council 2026. Host cities received USD 158 million in TV advertising equivalent value, a measure of the estimated advertising value associated with the event’s television exposure. Total attendance across VNL 2025 venues reached 883,000, while attendance per match increased 8% compared with 2024.
These measures describe different parts of the audience picture. Cumulative television reach measures people reached over the event; VBTV views and minutes measure digital consumption; social posts indicate publishing activity; and venue attendance measures in-person demand. They should not be added together as if they were the same audience.
National broadcast markets in 2025
Brazil was one of the clearest examples of VNL visibility in a national market. Brazil had more than 665 hours of dedicated VNL coverage in 2025, up 24% from the previous year. The tournament secured all of the top 10 live sports broadcasts on Brazilian pay TV. The weekly average cumulative audience was 1.6 million, while 16% of the national TV panel population watched VNL 2025, equivalent to about 11.1 million people. The FIVB VNL 2025 broadcast records also reported 12.4 million new viewers in Brazil since 2022.
The women’s pool match between Brazil and Italy on Globo drew a live average audience of 2.7 million. It was the second most-watched live sports broadcast of the year outside football in Brazil. The live average is a match-level measure, while the 11.1 million figure is a national panel reach estimate, so the two numbers describe different viewing concepts.
Poland had just over 1,046 hours of VNL coverage in 2025, with coverage growing 42% from 2024 to 2025. The men’s VNL final between Poland and Italy drew a combined audience of 3.8 million in Poland. The FIVB VNL Council 2026 identified that audience as the largest sports audience on Polsat Sport in 25 years.
Türkiye expanded VNL coverage by 63% in 2025. The supplied 2025 figures identify the expansion rate, but do not provide a corresponding 2025 cumulative audience or total coverage-hour figure for Türkiye.
VNL 2024 country-by-country audiences
The 2024 figures show how different national markets contributed to volleyball’s overall visibility. China’s cumulative VNL audience reached 268 million, with 168 hours of live broadcast. VNL was the second-highest sports broadcast in China for 2024, and peak viewership reached 23.6 million. Four of the top 10 live sports broadcasts in China that year were VNL matches.
Poland’s cumulative VNL audience reached 46 million in 2024, supported by 409 hours of live broadcast. The women’s VNL match between Poland and Germany was the second-highest sports programme on Polsat in 2024. Nine of the top 10 live sports broadcasts on Polsat came from VNL 2024.
Türkiye’s cumulative VNL audience reached 11.3 million in 2024, with 240 hours of live broadcast. A women’s VNL match between the USA and Türkiye drew 804,000 viewers and ranked as the second-highest live sports broadcast on TRT that year.
Thailand recorded a 38.4 million cumulative live VNL broadcast audience in 2024 from 53 hours of live broadcast. The Thailand-China match drew a 3.7 million live average audience and peaked at 4.6 million viewers.
| Market or measure | VNL 2024 figure |
|---|---|
| China cumulative audience | 268 million |
| Poland cumulative audience | 46 million |
| Thailand cumulative live audience | 38.4 million |
| Türkiye cumulative audience | 11.3 million |
| Thailand-China live average | 3.7 million |
| Thailand-China peak | 4.6 million |
| USA-Türkiye match audience | 804,000 |
Brazil’s men’s VNL match against Italy attracted 2.8 million viewers on TV Globo, while the women’s match between Brazil and Serbia drew 2.5 million. Brazil’s total unique reach for VNL 2024 was 10.9 million individuals, up 27% from 2023. Unique reach counts individuals reached during the measured period and is different from a match’s average audience.
The 2024 figures came from FIVB VNL 2024 viewership and attendance reporting, while the attendance comparisons came from the FIVB anniversary 2025 reporting. The VNL 2024 pool phase drew 751,000 spectators. Attendance was up 13% from 2023 and 33% from 2022.
VBTV and digital viewing
VBTV data points to strong growth in live digital consumption. VBTV live viewership grew 21% year over year in 2024. Growth was especially pronounced in Italy, where live viewership increased 99%, and Brazil, where it increased 103%.
Women’s competitions were a major part of that growth. VBTV women’s finals viewership grew 83% in 2024. The women’s finals were the platform’s most-watched game and set a new VBTV viewership record by 38%. The previous women’s game record was surpassed by 103%.
The 2024 VBTV viewership split was 53.6% women and 46.4% men. This describes the share of reported viewership by competition category, not the gender composition of viewers. It shows that women’s volleyball represented a larger share of VBTV viewing in the measured period.
For VNL 2025, the FIVB VNL Council 2026 reported 22.7 million VBTV views and 819 million minutes watched. A separate FIVB CEO announcement in 2025 reported that watch time over the first three weeks of VNL 2025 was 166% higher than in the comparable 2024 period. That early-tournament comparison should be kept separate from the full-event 819 million-minute figure.
The same FIVB CEO announcement reported 55% year-over-year growth in VBTV paid subscribers. Subscriber growth and viewing growth are related but distinct measures: one describes the platform’s paying subscriber base, while the other describes content consumption.
Social media and website reach
Volleyball’s audience extends beyond live matches. VNL 2024 generated 23.3 million total social media engagements, and Volleyball World website views since the start of VNL 2024 reached 127 million. Volleyball World content had a combined 1.8 billion views across television and digital platforms in 2024, according to the FIVB CEO announcement in 2025.
The FIVB CEO announcement also reported that more than 20 million people followed Volleyball World’s social channels, with social followers growing 14% year over year. The 2025 VNL reporting separately recorded 2,987 social media posts. Posts and engagements are not interchangeable: a post is a published item, while an engagement is an interaction counted under the relevant platform measurement.
Earlier platform figures provide a comparison point. Volleyball World’s YouTube channel surpassed 3.2 million followers in 2023 and grew 48% that year. Volleyball World had nearly 16 million followers across all platforms combined in 2023. It ranked third overall among Olympic International Federations in 2023 and fourth most followed IF across the referenced channels.
The 2023 and 2025 follower figures use different measurement periods and may reflect different platform groupings, so they should not be treated as a direct like-for-like growth calculation. They do show that volleyball’s digital audience was already substantial before the broader VNL 2025 results were reported.
Olympic visibility and worldwide participation
The Paris 2024 Olympic cycle produced several large volleyball-related audience measures. Paris 2024 reached more than 5.7 billion people, while volleyball and beach volleyball sold close to 1.2 million tickets. Beach volleyball alone drew over 450,000 fans to the stands. The FIVB Strategic Vision 2032 reported about USD 1 billion in media ROI for volleyball from Paris 2024.
The FIVB 78th anniversary reporting said that the Volleyball Experience at Paris 2024 engaged over 300,000 people. This is an activation figure, not a broadcast audience, and therefore belongs alongside the ticketing and in-person measures rather than being combined with them.
At the wider sport level, the FIVB says volleyball has over 800 million fans worldwide, and another FIVB anniversary figure says 800 million people worldwide now engage with volleyball in some form. These are global estimates, not a count of unique viewers for one event. The FIVB’s stated fan-base target is 1.6 billion people, with the global volleyball movement target likewise describing growth from 800 million to 1.6 billion people.
The sport’s organizational scale provides context for that ambition. The FIVB was founded in 1947 by 14 founding nations and now has 222 National Federations. The FIVB Foundation launched in May 2024. Those figures describe governance and development infrastructure rather than viewership, but they help explain the geographic scope behind the audience estimates.
Taken together, the available statistics show several distinct ways people follow volleyball: television reach in national markets, streaming minutes on VBTV, social and website activity, Olympic exposure, ticketed attendance and global fan estimates. The measures are strongest when read separately, with their dates, geographies and definitions kept explicit.
